Caving in the Salten area

In the area around Bodø you will find both the simple and the more demanding caves. Nordland is the area in Scandinavia with the best possibilities for caving.


Caving can be done both summer and winter - and there is no weather reservations!

Svarthamarhola

Svarthamarhola located close to Fauske is one of the largest caves in Scandinavia, and it is also one of the few caves in Europe that has a glacier. The cave is large and airy and you have the option to choose whether you would like to go on a simple route without major challenges or you prefer a slightly demanding route where you have to crawl and rappel a little. The route can therefore be adapted to the participants' skills and wishes. The cave also has Norway's largest natural mountain halls. Svarhamarhola is probabilly the best choice if you have not done caving before.

Facts:

This is a trip most people can participate in, with medium difficulty, as well as the ability to adapt to the individual group.

The trip takes about 6-8 hours from Bodø

Price: Nok. 800, - per person

Minimum price: kr. 4000, -

Equipment:

The helmet and headlamp are included in the price.

Coveralls can be rented for Nok. 150,- per person.


Vikgrotta

Vikgrotta is located just outside Rognan, in Saltdal municipality, approx. 90 minutes drive from Bodø. This cave is demanding, but what's on the inside cannot be compared to anything else. The cave starts with two narrow, but short hallways , before coming to potholes made out of marble. Further in, there is a 20 meter high waterfall. This cave is for small groups looking for a great adventure!


Facts:

This trip also has moderate difficulty. It's a little sporty cave and you have to be comfortable with some cramped passages and climbing, where we secure you with ropes.

The trip takes about 9-10 hours from Bodø. 3-4 hours inside the cave.

Do you have to be a group, or can you sign up alone?

You can sign up alone, and we will set up small groups for the cave tour, but please note that there must be a minimum of 4 registered for us to complete the tour.

Transport to the caving tour?

There is no organized transport to the starting point for the tour, but we can help you with information on how to get there. For larger group bookings, we can help you organize this.
